Partnership with the Association of Municipalities of Mali (AMM)

In 2009, the workshop "Construction and habitat in mud in Mali: issues and Opportunities", organized with the AMM and the city of Segou, gathered 80 representatives from different communities of Mali, as well as representatives of ministries Culture, Urbanism and Tourism and various professional bodies.

This workshop was particularly important that the last elections were renewed 80% community representatives. The objective was to show the economic, social and environmental heritage dimension of the mud architecture which is still very present in Mali as well as in the construction of monuments and in vernacular built. workshop_Segou_2009 Topics studied are:

  • tools established to better protect the old centers in mud
  • planning rules, tools of elected representatives and technicians compétences enhancement through training implemented by the University of Bamako and training organized with the AMM
  • tools of knowledge through various inventory methods

Communities, local authorities, councils declared engage themself with the AMM in order to protect the architecture of urban buildings in mud. The city of Segou is particularly involved in this project and would like to develop the program implemented in the district Somono with a global vision integrating sanitation.
