Partnership Pondichéry / La Rochelle

Since 2006, close links have been forged between the city of La Rochelle and the state of Pondicherry in India. These precious and fruitful exchanges have led to formalize their collaboration with the official signing of a cooperation agreement on 18 June 2010 in La Rochelle.

The agreement covers several areas: promotion, protection and preservation of cultural heritage, promotion of tourism, improving the urban living environment and socio-cultural resources.

The cooperation program, supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, has received the approval of UNESCO brings notoriety to the operation. Its operational implementation will be carried by ANVPAH & VSSP and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

On the occasion of the signing, an exhibition by the City of La Rochelle in the decentralized cooperation project "La Rochelle / Indian port cities" was presented in preview in the Event room of the Hotel city​​.

It shows how a backup policy and enhancement of heritage can enhance the attractiveness of a city and respond to cultural, tourist, economic and social. Two panels dedicated to Pondicherry highlight the remarkable restoration work that has been carried out and some future projects. The last panel refers to the agreement signed on 18 June 2010 and the partnerships established around the heritage rehabilitation. In autumn 2010, the exhibition will travel to Pondicherry.
